The Magic of Melatonin in Breastmilk

Did you know that breastmilk may hold the secret to better sleep for your little one? Research has shown that breastfeeding isn’t linked to infants having trouble falling asleep or experiencing restless nights. One reason could be melatonin, a hormone found in breastmilk that works wonders!

Why is melatonin so special?

Adults naturally produce melatonin at night, but infants don’t yet make their own. This hormone promotes better sleep and even helps relax the smooth muscles in the digestive system—making it easier on tiny tummies. A study by Engler et al. (2012) compared formula-fed and breastfed babies aged 2-4 months and found that exclusively breastfed infants had: Improved sleep patterns. Less irritability and colic.

Breastfeeding gives your baby so much more than nutrition—it helps soothe them to sleep and supports their overall well-being.
